Dear You,
I realized recently that “I always feel like I could be doing better and I never feel good enough” feeling is because I thought 110% was my best. I’ve been told many times (as I’m sure you have been) that I should be doing something better, or that what I am doing is not enough. You should be more productive, you should be taking care of yourself better, you shouldn’t be eating that. So many things like that, large and small add up to way too much.
So my point here is that my best is my best, and just to be crystal clear, my SUSTAINABLE best is my best. I shouldn’t have to work myself to the hospital or to therapy in order to be enough. I am human. I am me. That is enough. Some people (maybe all of us) are especially hard on ourselves, repeating the critiques that have piled up over time, but we don’t have to. Our health and happiness should be more important than our output.
For those who have a responsibility to others, the caregivers, the parents, the older siblings. You are just as important to care for as the person(s) you are caring for. It is very hard to give your best self when it isn’t there. Take care of you (its not selfish), and if you feel that you are not in a place where that even seems like an option, please reach out. If you don’t have a friend or group already that you feel safe and heard with please reach out to us.
Let’s value ourselves because we are enough.
With love ~Meagan
